FUEL FOR PRIVATE PLEASURE CRAFT
11 June 2007
With the expiry of the UK's derogation from the EU's Energy Products directive, the UK Government has to implement new national legislation to tax fuel for private pleasure boats and for private pleasure flying at the full road fuel duty rate.
The Government will bring in the new legislation from 1 NOVEMBER 2008. Until that date, private pleasure craft can continue to operate on gas oil at the current duty level of 7.69p per litre (due to rise to 9.69p per litre on 1 October 2007).
Informal discussions are currently taking place with representatives from FPS and the boating and aviation sectors on the options for implementation. There will be a formal consultation on the draft legislation later this year.
