Cold Weather Priority Initiative
Latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) data shows there were an estimated 34,300 excess winter deaths in England and Wales over the 2016/17 winter period, a rise of almost 40% and the second highest level for five years and 82.5% are in the age category 75 plus. This equates to 11 people dying unnecessarily every hour.
To help tackle the issue of excess winter deaths amongst those living in mainly rural communities and off the gas grid, The Federation of Petroleum Suppliers (FPS) the trade association for the heating oil industry and its members have launched the Cold Weather Priority Initiative (CWP).
The ground-breaking CWP initiative is designed to identify those most at risk and ensure that off-grid heating oil distributors can prioritise supplies to this most vulnerable group, especially in times of severe cold weather and/or supply shortage.Learn More About Cold Weather Priority
